Nuclear Medicine Technologist Student Case Studies

Nuclear Medicine Students are encouraged to submit a case study describing a nuclear medicine procedure. Students will be selected from various Nuclear Medicine programs for an 8-minute oral presentation at the Spring SWC-SNMMI meeting held on the weekend of March 14-16, 2025. Nuclear Medicine Program Directors are encouraged to mentor student presentations to ensure higher likelihood of acceptance for podium presentations and to promote the high quality of their respective training programs.

Student Submissions:

  • Six student presentations will be selected for oral presentation.

  • Students selected will receive free registration to the 2025 SWC-SNMMI Annual Meeting

  • Additional prizes/merchandise may also be awarded.

  • The top three presentations will be recognized in the SWC-SNMMI Newsletter/Website.

Procedure Synopsis and Presentation Criteria:

  • Student case study should include a synopsis describing the nuclear medicine procedure, with a maximum of 750-word count.

  • Case competition submissions should include nuclear medicine studies with relevant clinical information but can also include additional related diagnostic/interventional images.

  • Types of cases to consider range from diagnostic procedures, therapeutic protocols, unusual/uncommon cases, instrumentation-based presentations, interesting artifacts, or medication-effects, etc.

  • There is no limit to the number of cases students can submit and you do not need to be an SWC-SNMMI member to submit cases.

PowerPoint Guide/Outline:

  • Slide 1: Name, Nuclear Medicine Program, and procedure performed

  • Slide 2: Patient History, patient age, medical history, reason for exam, etc.

  • Slides 3-7: Images. Please include 2-5 images for your case. This must involve relevant nuclear medicine study images and may include any relevant diagnostic or interventional images as needed.

    • Patient identifiers MUST NOT be included on your images or in your case information. Including personal health information identifiers will result in disqualification.

    • Images should be added to your PowerPoint in either JPEG or TIFF format. Cine video clips can be included as needed.

    • Please include an appropriate caption for each image, including but not limited to:

      • The type of study, radiopharmaceutical utilized, amount administered, the route of administration, type of scanner or equipment used.

      • Label and describe the relevant findings.

  • Slide 8: Teaching points—Please include 2-5 teaching points for your case

  • Slide 9: References as needed for your teaching points.

  • Slides 10+: Include your synopsis in your final slides.
