Did you know?
Sugar Land got its name — and its start — as a company town built around the Imperial Sugar refinery, one of the oldest continuously operating businesses in Texas before it closed in 2003. Today, the refinery's historic silos and warehouses anchor Sugar Land Town Square, blending that industrial history with the shops, restaurants, and green space that make up the city's walkable center. It's worth a stop at the Heritage Museum to see where the city's name really came from.
